Join The Computer Club wiki

Who can join/why join?

Generally, only members of the Computer Club can join this site (however the odd exceptions may be made at admin discretion). Being a member of the site is purely optional, it's just that members can do more. By being a member of the site, you can:

  • Edit pages on this wiki
  • Create pages on this wiki
  • Upload files (if you use it wisely)
  • Rename/Replace/Remove/Delete files on pages you've made
  • Create new threads on our Discussion Forums

The only obstacle is that you have to create an account on wikidot.com before you can join this site, but that's nothing too tough (make a name, password, and get a confirmation email) - find a link saying create an account.
… Got your account now? And you're logged in? Good.

Applying method

Now you can "apply" below. If you want to apply, just write in the field below your info:

  • name
  • how long you've been a club member
  • what sort of club courses you've been in (include presenter names eg "Todd" if you've done something other than just the VB Intro course)
  • what you'd like to do to contribute to this wiki (optional, but it would make accounts/this wiki seem more useful)

Your application will not be made public (unless you really want it to be), and can only be read by the site admins.
When you hit the Apply/Submit/WhateverIt'sCalled button:

  1. admins (unless they turn the feature off) will be auto-emailed by wikidot's awesome system at about 3 PM with your "application"
  2. admin will read it
  3. admin will say out loud "This person seems like they could make some sort of use of a wiki such as this one, maybe it would be a good idea to let them use it"
  4. admin will hit the big-round-red-admins-only-top-secret-OK button1
  5. you will get an email saying "Yay, you're in"2

If you're well acquainted with any of our admins, and you don't think we need you to tell us all about you when we already know it all, then all this info is not crucial, just put in what you think you need to.

You should have a valid Wikidot.com account and be logged in order to apply for membership.

Magic Word

Oh, well, also, there is a second way to join… Basically, once you have your account set up on wikidot and get logged on, you can skip the whole applying process.

But you have to say the magic word. We're not going to tell many people the magic word because it's a secret. So if you know the magic word, don't tell anyone.

Anyway, If you know the magic word, type it in below, then you automatically become a member.

You should have a valid Wikidot.com account and be logged in order to enter the membership password.

Admin eh? That sounds nice - I want to be one of them

Short answer, no, you cannot become an admin. The only members of the club that will be admins are club Website coordinators, Presidents and maybe Vice Presidents. One or two supervisors or course presenters might be lucky enough to become moderators, but don't count on that either.

You can be happy enough editing articles without being an admin. If some issue arises where members need to do something they can't (which will be unlikely), then an admin will be able to resolve the situation by changing some rights to let them do that. We can't all be admins. It just wouldn't work.
