A little summary of what can and can't be done on the site

If you are not logged in to a site member account, you can:

read any page

create new posts on existing threads in these forums

If you are logged in and are a member of the site, you can do what's listed above, but also:

edit pages (that aren't blocked)

create new pages

upload files to be attached to a page

create new threads on the forums

If you have created a page on the wiki, then for these pages, you can (on top of what's listed above):

rename the page URL (i.e. move it)

delete the page

rename files attached to your page

replace, move and delete files attached to your page

If you have posted on the forum, then you can edit your posts.
If you have created a thread on the forums, you can edit the thread title and summary.

And, for the record:

Page moderators can do anything with any page on the wiki, including blocking pages.

Forum moderators can do anything with any post or thread on the forums, including editing and deleting posts and threads.

Administrators can do everything Page mods and Forum mods can do; and they can edit general site and forum settings.

The site founder (myself) is an administrator, and can edit the base URL (the bgscc bit), and delete the site. But that's neither of those are going to happen.

At the moment, anyone who can find this site can edit it (i.e. you don't need to be logged in), but that feature can be turned off easily. If you are here to check out the site while it's in development mode, have a go at posting, so you can get a feel for the syntax and UI.

..JGat

Replies to posts:

Notice also that replies to posts are nested neatly on the same page as the parent. Good because loading several individual pages takes effort and time, but may be bad if threads increase in post counts by large factors - this probably won't happen because it's one page per thread, whereas D2L lists 1 page per category.

Still, it's this, or D2L (or someone find a free - gratis forum host).

Wikidot, the free wiki host, which hosts this wiki, has also got a forum structure which wiki admins can embed into their wiki. This which you are reading is the forum for this wiki. A little info about the forums:

I've set up the forums by default so that anyone can reply to posts in threads, site Members can add threads, and post authors can edit their posts

There is a little catch with threads though, they can't be deleted permenently. They can only be moved to the "deleted threads" category. So don't bother going in there, because you won't find anything.

Note: Posts can be deleted, but threads can't. So what will probably happen if a thread needs to go is posts in the thread will be deleted, and then the thread will be deleted. If only a couple of posts need to be deleted, then that's what'll happen

It's not activated at the moment, but per-page-discussions can be activated, so that each page (or certain pages) will have a "discuss" link at the bottom, and that link will lead straight to an auto-made discussion category, where there is a link back to the page.

Also:

Wiki admins and Moderators can do anything and everything, including deleting posts and threads

Admins can add discussion groups and categories

I'm pretty sure that's right.
