About the Wiki

This site is a wiki which is reserved for use by the members of the Brisbane Grammar School Computer Club. A wiki is a site for which pages can be edited by multiple users quickly and easily. An example of a well-known wiki is Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia. This wiki can hold content relating to computer courses the club offers, and other club news and events. This wiki was founded by Jackson Gatenby in early 2008. You can read more about this wiki on the Wiki Info page, and below

About the Club

The Brisbane Grammar School Computer Club, founded in the 1970's, is an extracurricular club of the School. The most recent mission statement says:

The Brisbane Grammar School’s Computer Club has the primary purpose of providing, encouraging and helping students, of all ages with the modern marvels of technology today. As its name suggests the Computer Club’s main focus is on all aspects of computers. This has been demonstrated with our Junior and Senior Programming Competitions and through the creation of a Network Room in which students created their own network and computers. The club is a very student oriented program, which exists due to a handful of dedicated students.

More about the Wiki

This Wiki is managed by the Site members. The wiki is on wikidot.com's servers, and is independent of the school apart from being all about the school's Computer Club.

If you are a club member, and want to have an account on this wiki, have a look at the Join Site Page. This wiki may prove useful to you, that is why it is here.

This wiki can be used to make/edit pages relating to the club e.g.:

  • source code
  • problems you are having with programming
  • lesson plans etc. for course presenters
  • course information
  • meeting minutes
  • sections for course students to do stuff
  • discussions for all members
  • a public info page (about the club)
  • whatever else you can think of

… without having to worry about D2L's quick-filling discussion boards with only 1 person being able to edit anything. No offence to D2L/School's choice in e-learning system/etc., but having to log in on every visit to come to a site which only one person can really change can be a bit useless. Which can bring about people not going on. Also, the forum on D2L needs to load every page, and takes a while to do so, which people may have noticed recently.
